A DAY OF KFWB NOSTALGIA.Byline: -- Staff and Wire Services XM Satellite Radio will trip down memory lane to focus entirely on the sounds of local station KFWB from the era when the AM station -- now an all-news outlet -- spun the Fab 40. At 4 p.m. Friday, XM's ``The 60s'' (Channel 6), will present five hours of music, jingles, sound checks and local color about the area's high schools, restaurants and personalities from the golden age of KFWB, which was the first true Top 40 station in Los Angeles. A call-in segment will allow listeners to share their memories. CAREY BIG AT BMI: Mariah Carey has nabbed trophies for song of the year and songwriter of the year at BMI's Urban Awards. Carey won for co-writing ``We Belong Together,'' ``Don't Forget About Us'' and ``Shake It Off.'' Also honored by the performing rights organization during the ceremony Wednesday in New York was songwriting and production team Kenneth ``Babyface'' Edmonds and Antonio ``L.A.'' Reid, named BMI Icons for their ``enduring influence on generations of music makers.'' BAD BOY'S GOOD WEEK: Sean ``P. Diddy'' Combs' new label struck gold this week with girl band Danity Kane, whose debut album went to No. 1 on the charts. It's the third hit from a debut artist under the Bad Boy imprint in three months. Danity Kane was created on the Diddy-fronted MTV reality show ``Making the Band 3.'' Other Bad Boy acts to hit the jackpot were Southern rapper Yung Joc and Cassie, who developed a huge following on online teen hangout MySpace.com. MONKEYS SHINE: The Arctic Monkeys are tipped to win the U.K.'s prestigious Mercury Music Prize on Tuesday. Albums by Radiohead singer Thom Yorke and rock bands Muse and Editors are also up for the award for the best U.K. or Irish album of the past year. The winner will receive a 20,000 check. Nominating judges described the Monkeys' debut, ``Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not,'' as ``essential,'' saying it contained ``great songs astonishingly performed.'' |
