A DASHING SANTA; Dalglish and wife launch charity fun run.

IT might only be October, but Santa Claus is coming to town - and he looks a lot like Kenny Dalglish Kenneth Mathieson Dalglish MBE (born 4 March 1951 in Dalmarnock, Glasgow) is a former Scottish international football player. He was famous for his successes with Celtic in the 1970s and with the English club Liverpool in the 1970s and 1980s. .

The former football star and his wife Marina teamed up to launch the Santa Dash 2008, which will be held in Glasgow in December.

Last year's 5k run raised pounds 53,000 for charity and the Dalglishes were back in their home town, dressed as Santa and Mrs Claus, to help launch this year's big event.

Almost 2000 Santas pounded Glasgow's streets last year in aid of cancer charity the Marina Dalglish Appeal and music therapy group Nordoff Robbins. Kenny and Marina launched the Marina Dalglish Appeal to help cancer patients, nurses and doctors after her successful treatment for breast cancer five years ago.

The Santa Dash is again being supported by Glasgow City Council, Royal Bank of Scotland

"They raised a lot of money for a great cause and everyone should be very proud."

Marina said: "To see all the Santas running was unbelievable and it was wonderful to have such a great turnout."

Mark Hollinshead, managing director of the Daily Record and Sunday Mail, said: "The Daily Record is delighted to be able to support this wonderful idea to help raise funds for the Marina Dalglish Appeal and I am sure the Santa Dash will be a great success."
