A Church that Can and Cannot Change: The Development of Catholic Moral Teaching.

A Church that Can and Cannot Change: The Development of Catholic Moral Teaching John T Noonan (University of Notre Dame Press, 2005, 297pp)

Noonan shows how some church teachings (he cites slavery, usury, religious freedom and marriage) have changed through the ages. He fails to explain cogently why the teachings on these issues could change and others did not, but it remains vital reading for those involved in reforming the church.
