Brantford is a city located on the Grand River in southwestern Ontario, Canada. This single-tier municipality was once part of Brant County.

Long is an active member of the Brantford Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Advisory Board, which he has served on as a volunteer for the past 25 years. In addition, he has been a long-time member of the Ontario Parks This is the list of all national and provincial parks in Ontario, Canada.

 Association, and also helped establish the Ontario Parks Foundation. He was awarded the association's "Award of Recognition" for his contributions and community involvement toward conservation, parks and recreational programs that have benefited his fellow citizens.
