The City of Hope works to fight cancer, diabetes, AIDS and other serious illnesses.

The three salons chipped in to make the event a success, said Dan Bonfiglio of Hope for Kids.

``They donate the shop, they donate the talent,'' Bonfiglio said.

On what otherwise might be a profitable Sunday afternoon, the decision to give all profits to Hope for Kids was a natural one, said Gloria Bisland, owner of Simi Valley's Ultra-Image Salon.

``It's not easy, you know, but somebody has to do it,'' Bisland said. ``Mostly I do it because I have five children and they're really healthy, and I want all children to be healthy.''

Bisland and her stylists cut hair in the parking lot in front of their store under blue umbrellas decorated dec·o·rate

``Hopefully they'll do a terrific job and get some new clients,'' Bonfiglio said.

The fund-raiser was a small way to give something back to the community, Bisland said.

``I live in this community for 32 years,'' she said. ``I'm putting back what I think is right.''

Other participating salons were John of Italy in Westlake Village and Jamie's Hair Design in Thousand Oaks.
