A CLOSER LOOK PUBLIC TOUR SET FOR NEW HIGH SCHOOL.Byline: Patricia Farrell Aidem Staff Writer CANYON COUNTRY - The last time Jacque Snyder led parents and future students on a tour of the new Golden Valley High school, the campus was little more than a tangle of metal frames. Now two-thirds complete, Santa Clarita's first new high school in more than 10 years is ready to welcome another tour group. On Monday, Snyder, Golden Valley's principal-in-waiting, will lead the public around the quickly emerging campus, scheduled to open in August. ``Now we have trees and finished buildings,'' Snyder said Friday. While physical work is nearing completion, Snyder and her staff are planning the education side. They are considering a block-style schedule under which core classes meet for longer periods every other day. That, she said, gives more time for students to absorb concepts being taught. ``It gives the kids time to think,'' she said. ``It helps them understand, wrap things up. Just having extra time in class to be able to dialogue with peers makes things bright and clear.'' Another plan is to interview incoming freshmen about their career goals and place them on academic teams that focus on appropriate concepts. Students with similar interests would share teachers for core classes, like the current junior high system in the district. ``Anything I can do to make a big campus smaller for kids, I'll try it,'' Snyder said.
