Aside from headliners such as Eshaya Murphy Eshaya "Shay" Murphy (born April 15 1985, in Canoga Park, California) is an American professional basketball player in the WNBA, currently playing for the Minnesota Lynx.

Its name derives from its crescent-like shape, with the convex portion facing roughly northeast and the concave portion southwest.  of La Crescenta), many of the participants in today's Battle of the Valley senior all-star basketball games at Cal State Northridge are uncertain about their college plans.

It means that in addition to having fun, many will be looking to showcase their talents in front of a large audience that should include a number of college recruiters.

of Lancaster's Laurie Hodges attracted recruiting interest with a good performance in the game and landed on the Cal State Northridge women's basketball Women's basketball is one of the few games which developed in tandem with men's. It became popular, spreading from the east coast of the United States to the west coast, in large part via women's colleges.  team, where she later earned a scholarship.

Among some of the most talented players yet to sign with a college program include Moorpark's Keith Lawrence and Burbank's Christine Kepenekian.

Lawrence was a Daily News All-Area selection, averaging 17.9 points and making 74 3-pointers this past season.

Kepenekian averaged 24.1 points and 13.4 rebounds a game and shot 41 percent from behind the 3-point arc.

Despite drawing praise from opposing coaches such as Royal of Simi Valley's Mike Kohl and Valencia's Jerry Mike, Kepenekian received little attention from college recruiters because she hadn't played in the higher-profile club basketball scene until this season.

``I think it's because I don't really look like a basketball player,'' she said. ``But if you can play, you can play. ... I didn't have the kind of money to play on a travel team, so I didn't get that much exposure. The only time people came to see me play was when they were watching somebody else.''

Kepenekian said she would attend either Valley College or College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state.
