A Boat Load of Books, a World of Reading; First Book and Urban Teacher Education Program Team up to Provide Books for Houston Children and Families.

The fourth largest city in the nation and the largest in the entire South and Southwest, Houston is a port of entry;
 -- To promote literacy and reading in Houston communities, First Book-Houston is distributing 500 books to students from James L. Ketelsen Elementary, with the help of the University of Houston-Downtown, at 4:30 p.m., Friday, September 23. The event will be held in the Special Events Center at UH-Downtown, 1 Main Street in Houston. Pam Van Scoyoc, children's book author and member of First Book - Houston, is expected to attend and will donate some of her books to the children.

"As hard as it is to believe, some children in Houston do not own a book or have age-appropriate books in their homes," said Dolores Dolores (or Delores) was a common given name (until the 1960s in the USA); it is cognate with the English word "dolorous" (meaning sorrowful) and equivalent in meaning.  Colunga-Stawitz, Chair, First Book-Houston. "Through this distribution, we are reaching out to some of those children and providing them with the opportunity to discover a whole new world through reading."

Pam Van Scoyoc is the author of two published books: Angel Wings angel wings
