A Barnyard Counting Poem.

   One early rooster
      wakes and cries,
   "Cock-a-doodle-doo,
      it's time to rise."

   Two cuddly kittens
      stretch and yawn,
   "Let's get breakfast
      before it's all gone."

   Three proud puppies
      play in the sun.
   They roll and tumble,
      then off they run.

   Four hale horses
      at the barn door
   Gallop and rest and
      gallop some more.

   Five lazy cows
      that stand and chew,
   Never say much,
      except when they MOOO.

   Six noisy piglets
      snort and squeal.
   Such a silly way
      to eat a meal!

   Seven white ducks sing,
      "Quack, quack, quack."
   They waddle to the pond,
      forth and back.

   Eight little lambs
      with soft, curly hair
   Try to chase butterflies
      in the air.

   Nine tiny mice
      dart in the hay.
   They hide from the farmer
      just to play.

   Ten fuzzy chicks
      scratch with their feet
   Searching for food.
      "We're hungry. Let's eat!"
