A BREED APART RAPPER LIL' BOW WOW SETS OUT TO CONQUER ANOTHER BRANCH OF THE MEDIA WITH HIS NEW MOVIE 'LIKE MIKE'.

Byline: Sandra Barrera Staff Writer

For the last five hours, Lil' Bow Wow Shad Gregory Moss (born March 9, 1987), better known by his stage name Bow Wow (formerly Lil' Bow Wow), is an American rapper, actor, and music producer. [1] Biography
Bow Wow was born in Columbus, Ohio to Teresa and Junie Moss.
has been dribbling basketballs for a steady stream of camera crews at Los Angeles' Pan Pacific Park.

And he's got another hour to go.

Bow - as he is called for short - is promoting his motion picture debut in the modern-day fairy tale fairy tale

``Like Mike.'' He plays the hoop-loving orphan Calvin Cambridge, whose big dream is to leave the Chesterfield Group Home adopted.

Judging by the scowl on his face at the moment, it seems Bow just wants to leave. Period.

But he reluctantly takes his seat in the general rec REC - CONVERT  room and slaps his hand against his chest as if feeling around for something.

``Mom, my necklace,'' Bow says. ``My necklace.''

His mother slips a silver dog bone-linked chain and dangling paw print emblazoned with the name given to the 15-year-old rapper sometime back by Snoop Dogg over his neatly corn-rowed head. Bow - whose real name is Shad Moss - tucks it into the collar of his Atlanta Braves The Atlanta Braves are a professional baseball team based in Atlanta, Georgia. ``All rappers have one,'' he continues with that tough, deep voice devoid of any emotion.

His face settles back into a comfortable scowl not like the look of longing that he wore as his character in ``Like Mike.'' In the film, Calvin's other dream is becoming an NBA NBA

. Only Calvin can't play basketball to save his life, let alone save his favorite jersey from the destructive clutches of the orphanage ORPHANAGE, Eng. law. By the custom of London, when a freeman of that city dies, his estate is divided into three parts, as follows: one third part to the widow; another, to the children advanced by him in his lifetime, which is called the orphanage; and the other third part may be by him  bully.

But Bow keeps music and movie-making separate to help himself stay focused. At the moment, he is saying that starring in ``Like Mike'' was his most appealing movie offer.

``This isn't the type of movie that you're going to see me playing a Lil' Bow Wow character,'' he says. ``This is the type of movie you're going to see me play a whole different character because that's what acting is all about: trying new things and playing different characters.''

In fact, Bow says he played the character exactly as it was written.

``That's basically how the situation was,'' he says. ``I matched the character as he was described on paper, and I tried to make it as real as possible to that; and I basically do.''

Peter Heller Peter Heller is a recognized expert on fiscal policy and public finance. The former Deputy Director of the Fiscal Affairs Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), he has advised both industrial and developing countries on broad macroeconomic policy strategies and , producer of the film, says that Bow was the natural choice for ``Like Mike.''

``We needed a kid who not only has enormous appeal, but one who could play basketball believably and carry a movie, because he's in nearly every scene,'' Heller says.

Morris Chestnut, who stars opposite Bow as the basketball player Tracey Reynolds, says Bow had a harder time than most of the actors because of his inexperience.

``Acting is a difficult thing to do,'' Chestnut says. ``He is a rapper so he does have some exposure to the entertainment industry but coming over from a studio to where you're calling your own shots and rapping what you feel to being the star of a film to where you have a set schedule and set lines and have to be in character is a lot different.

``I think there were days, as with everyone on the set, to where it gets a little tough to go to work and be focused on your work,'' he says. ``But for the most part, I think he did a great job.''

Paws to reflect

Ask Bow and he doesn't let on that acting is anything other than ``easy.''

``Let's keep going; let's keep moving,'' he says. ``Everything's natural for me; everything comes easy. I adjust to things very quickly. I'm not the kind of person who gets intimidated by anything.''

Perhaps it's something he tells himself when the going gets tough, or maybe it really is the truth.

Bow has been performing as a rapper since the age of 6.

Two years ago, after having already appeared on countless magazine covers and two movie soundtracks, he put out his debut album.

That album ``Beware of Dog'' sold more than 2 million copies thanks to the catchy single ``Bounce With Me,'' which toppled the r&b and rap charts.

Many of the kids who excitedly stand outside the gym where Bow shows off his moves for the latest photographer recite the song's most memorable line: ``Bow wow wow Bow Wow Wow was a 1980s New Wave band organized by Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren in 1980 whose music is described as having an "African-derived drum sound".[1] History  yippie yo yippie yay.''

The doors of the gymnasium open and out walks Bow, surrounded by security and his personal bodyguard. An 11-year-old girl turns to her friends with a gasp.

``He's so short,'' says the girl, Angela Brussel. ``When you see him on TV, he looks so much taller than he really is.''

The warning comes on the heels of hip-hop sensation Lil' Bow Wow's motion picture debut, ``Like Mike,'' in which his character climbs a tree in the rain to retrieve a pair of sneakers dangling from a power line. They are believed to have once belonged to Michael Jordan. Lightning strikes the pole supporting the line just as he reaches the shoes, sending thousands of volts of electricity through him and knocking him to the ground.

Miraculously, he survives the electric shock. Heck, he's even better off because of it. The lightning has given his shoes the power to magically transform anybody who laces them up into a basketball wiz.

Officials at Southern California Edison warn that this plot sends a dangerous and misleading message about the serious hazards of power lines. And they recommend calling the company for help if something becomes entangled en·tan·gle
