A BIG FAT LAME COMEDY.

Byline: Glenn Whipp Film critic

THE LAST SHOT in ``Big Fat Liar'' is of an adult taking a kick to the groin, which is pretty much the same sensation I felt about 10 minutes into this loud and obnoxious bore of a movie. This is one of those films where the characters inhabit that special annex of hell where adults behave like kids, children behave like adults and everyone screams at the top of their lungs no matter what the situation. (Another common trait of movies playing at the hell megaplex: A Smashmouth song over the opening credits Opening credits, in a television program, motion picture or videogame, are shown at the beginning of a show and list the most important members of the production. They are usually shown as text superimposed on a blank screen or static pictures, or sometimes on top of action in the .)

But even this audience will be put off by the movie's pandering humor. Take away the word ``dookie'' and all of its known synonyms, along with sight gags involving people being hit and/or injured and this 88-minute trifle would lose half its running time.

Muniz plays Jason, a 14-year-old truth-challenged kid who has his term paper stolen by a nasty Hollywood producer (Paul Giamatti) and turned into a potential summer blockbuster. No one believes the kid, so he goes to Universal City (forget Hollywood - this is a Universal picture, and they miss no chance at corporate synergy, whether it's shamelessly plugging the theme park or the upcoming ``E.T.'' reissue) with his gal pal Kaylee (Bynes) to redeem his reputation.

Most of the movie involves PG-level sadism, either on the part of the producer or Jason, whose elaborate military battle plan of revenge would make Patton proud. Other items of note: Anyone who digs a bad Sam Kinison Samuel "Sam" Burl Kinison (December 8 1953 – April 10 1992) was an American stand-up comedian and actor.

Kinison was famous for his extremely raunchy humor and amazingly wild, colorful outfits.
