A & P Issues Product Recall.MONTVALE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 17, 1998--The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, Inc. is recalling Master Choice Dark Bittersweet bittersweet, name for two unrelated plants, belonging to different families, both fall-fruiting woody vines sometimes cultivated for their decorative scarlet berries. Chocolate Bars, 3.5 oz., 100g, all codes that do not contain the declaration sticker, under the ingredient statement, stating "may contain traces of peanuts, hazelnuts, almonds, cream powder and milk powder." These products are being withdrawn because they may contain undeclared peanuts, hazelnuts or almonds. People who have allergies to nuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction allergic reaction n. A local or generalized reaction of an organism to internal or external contact with a specific allergen to which the organism has been previously sensitized. if they consume these products. No illnesses have been reported to date. This product has been distributed in 18 eastern states* and is sold in A&P, Super Fresh, Waldbaum's, Food Emporium, Super Foodmart, Farmer Jack, Kohl's and Sav-A-Center supermarkets. The recall was initiated when it was discovered that some of the golden foil packages did not contain the declaration sticker stating, "may contain traces of peanuts, hazelnuts, almonds, cream powder and milkpowder." Consumers who have purchased this product are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
