A&W Restaurants to Give Away Free Root Beer Floats with Any Purchase on June 20, Second Annual National Float Day; A&W Also Announces 2005 Collector Mugs Will Be Available in July.


LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A&W(R) Restaurants will give away a free Root Beer Float with any purchase on National Float Day, Monday, June 20, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. This is the second annual Root Beer Float giveaway from A&W Restaurants, America's longest-running quick service franchise chain.

Regular A&W Root Beer(R) Floats will be available free of charge with any purchase between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. at participating A&W All American Food(R) locations. Even the smallest purchase qualifies; buy even an order of fries on June 20, and you'll get a free Root Beer Float.

A&W's summertime celebration continues in early July when the chain introduces the limited edition 2005 A&W collector mug. The mugs have been favorites of collectors since the 1920s. The 2005 edition is a 20-ounce glass mug imprinted with a full-color image of the A&W mascot, the Great Root Bear(R).

Polsson also is the author of a very comprehensive timeline detailing the history of A&W mugs, which he began working on in 1995, and for which he has used more than 500 books, magazines and other sources for research.

"As a teenager, I had a four-inch-tall A&W 'bull's eye' mug, and loved its thick glass and half-heart shaped handle," Polsson said. "The thick glass is the unique appeal of A&W Root Beer mugs. No other restaurant or soft drink company that I know of has anything like them."
