A&W(R) Turns National Ice Cream Day into a Summer-Long Celebration with 'Float Your Papa Burger(R) Combo for Free' Offer.LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Across the country on Sunday, July 16, fans of frozen treats will be celebrating "National Ice Cream Day." But at A&W Restaurants, the party will just be getting started as the chain kicks off its summer-long "Float Your Papa Combo for Free" promotion on Sunday. From July 16 through Sept. 2, any A&W customer who orders a Papa Burger Combo (including a Papa Burger, fries and a drink) will receive a free drink upgrade: A&W will make the drink a float, free of charge. "The A&W brand was founded in 1919, so we have a very long and very cool relationship with ice cream," said Tim Matis, Director of Marketing for A&W Restaurants. "We consider ourselves experts in both summertime fun and Sweets & Treats(TM), and we don't think a single day is enough time to do justice to celebrating ice cream. So we're extending the celebration through Sept. 2 with our 'Float Your Papa Combo for Free' offer." The "float upgrade offer" applies to other soft drinks as well (although the root beer float is far and away the most popular float flavor at A&W). So for those who prefer other float flavors over root beer floats, A&W will be happy to oblige. "Visiting your hometown home·town n. The town or city of one's birth, rearing, or main residence. "But for those who can't make it on Sunday, A&W will be extending the celebration through the summer. Every day is 'Ice Cream Day' as far as A&W is concerned."
