A&P Appoints Elizabeth R. Culligan President; Mitchell P. Goldstein Chief Financial Officer.

:GAP) today announced the following senior management appointments, effective immediately.

Elizabeth R Elizabeth R is a BBC television drama serial that was broadcast in six, 85 minute parts on terrestrial channel BBC Two from February to March 1971. Starring Glenda Jackson in the title role, it was a largely accurate, historical portrayal of the life of Elizabeth I of . Culligan has been named President & Chief Operating Officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)

. She was previously Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer. In her new role, Ms. Culligan adds development and strategic planning Strategic planning is an organization's process of defining its strategy, or direction, and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy, including its capital and people.  to her previous responsibility for operations, marketing, category management and supply & logistics. She continues to report to Christian Haub, Chairman of the Board & Chief Executive Officer. Ms. Culligan joined A&P in January 2001 from Nabisco Holdings Corp., where she was President of Nabisco International.

The company also announced the appointment of Mitchell P. Goldstein as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, also reporting to Mr. Haub. He succeeds Fred Corrado, Vice Chairman & Chief Financial Officer, who will retire in May. Mr. Goldstein joined A&P in January 2000 as Senior Vice President, Finance.

Commenting on the appointments, Mr. Haub said, "Beth Culligan has been instrumental in our company's improvement over the past year. With her outstanding leadership and management expertise, I am confident that she will continue to drive improved results as she assumes her new role.

 Goldstein is assuming the position of Chief Financial Officer. Working closely with his predecessor Fred Corrado, Mitch has played a vital role in major initiatives that have significantly strengthened our company's financial position, and I look forward to his leadership of this pivotal function going forward."
