A&P Announces Management Change at Food Emporium.

:GAP) today announced the upcoming retirement of Lou Ruggiero, President of the Company's Food Emporium division, after a career in New York City New York City: see New York, city.

The Company also announced that Cheryl Palmer, formerly Senior Vice President of Strategic Marketing, will succeed Mr. Ruggiero as President of The Food Emporium on September 30, 2000.

Ms. Palmer joined A&P in 1999 from Allied Domecq Allied Domecq PLC was an international company, headquartered in Bristol, UK that operated spirits, wine, and quick service restaurant businesses. History

 Spirits & Wines, where she was a Group Vice President and General Manager, Portfolio Leadership. Prior to that, she spent 13 years with the Cadbury Beverages organization, in a number of marketing and management positions.

The Food Emporium, a division of A&P's Atlantic Region, operates 40 upscale supermarkets in Manhattan and nearby suburbs.

Founded in 1859, A&P was one of the nation's first supermarket chains, and is today one of North America's 10 largest.
