OVERCROWDING overcrowding

 at Letterkenny General Hospital Letterkenny General Hospital (Irish: Ospidéal Ginearálta Leitir Ceanainn) is an acute hospital serving the inhabitants of County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland.  has reached "horrendous" levels, it was claimed yesterday.

Fine Gael Deputy for Donegal South West Dinny McGinley said 35 patients spent Tuesday night on trollies.

He added: "Senior staff at Letterkenny are describing the situation at the hospital as horrendous.

"Once again today, all procedures have been cancelled."

Last year 1,354 operations at the hospital were cancelled.

Mr McGinley said: "The New Year has seen the worst possible start and would lead one to believe last year's record may well be surpassed this year."
