A&A APPLIES COMMON TRADING NAME TO GLOBAL RETAIL BROKING OPERATION

NEW YORK, April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- A decade-long globalization process by Alexander & Alexander Services Inc. ("A&A") (NYSE: AAL) has culminated with the announcement today that the company's principal retail insurance broking operations have begun trading worldwide as "Alexander & Alexander."
The change will be most evident to clients of A&A's Canadian company, Reed Stenhouse Limited, as well as A&A's Alexander Stenhouse subsidiaries in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
A&A already trades as Alexander & Alexander in the United States and in portions of Europe and the Asia Pacific region, including Japan.
Michael K. White, deputy chairman and head of A&A's global retail operations, said use of the common trading name follows years of growth in which the company established or acquired brokerage and risk management consulting operations in key financial centers around the world.
"The `Alexander & Alexander' common trading name reflects the fact that we own or control our global network," Mr. White noted. "We are one of the very few brokers capable of providing consistent quality service on a worldwide basis."
In 1992, more than 45 percent of A&A's operating revenue was generated outside of the United States. The company operates in over 80 countries through more than 300 offices which offer A&A's global resources to meet local client needs.
Mr. White added that A&A's transformation has occurred during a time when a growing share of global economic activity comes from outside of the United States. This involves much more than major corporations. An increasing number of companies in various countries are looking for business opportunities outside of their own borders.
"Not only does a global network benefit clients doing business across national boundaries, but global market access and risk management resources are needed by companies of all sizes," he said.
A&A Services Inc. is a global organization of professional advisers providing risk management, insurance brokerage and human resource management consulting services from offices in more than 80 countries.
