@Road and Symbol Technologies Establish Marketing Alliance.

@Road(SM) (Nasdaq:ARDI), which develops and provides location-enhanced and other intelligent wireless Internet solutions for mobile commerce, and Symbol Technologies (NYSE:SBL), of Holtsville, N.Y., Wednesday announced that they have entered into an agreement to establish a relationship to promote and deliver integrated products and services.

The alliance between the two companies is expected to result in new e-logistics solutions that incorporate Symbol hardware and @Road LocationSmart(TM) services.

The companies will develop a joint business plan to define new solutions packages and identify and capture marketing and promotional opportunities. Each company intends to cooperate in marketing the integrated solutions and to bring the other into appropriate customer engagements.

Symbol and @Road have agreed to work together to develop cooperative sales programs, including Symbol's promotion of @Road as a Logistics Systems Group Marketing Alliance Partner, and @Road's introduction of Symbol hardware products to @Road customers.

They also intend to explore additional strategies for strengthening the alliance and bringing value-added services to their customers, according to Krish Panu, @Road chairman and CEO.

Symbol SPT 1733 will enable customers to not only collect and manage data anytime, anywhere, but also access remote host systems through wireless WANs. The new wide area SPT 1733 supports popular Palm OS(R) enterprise, productivity and synchronization software, giving users tremendous flexibility and bringing added value to their customized solutions.

The SPT 1733 houses Novatel's CDPD (Cellular Digital Packet Data) modem which uses Wireless IP Technology -- a secure, open standard network which offers reliable, real-time data transmission at speeds up to 19.2 Kbps.

Symbol PPT 2700 utilizes the Palm-sized PC platform and Microsoft(R) Windows CE operating system, providing field sales, service and delivery forces with the ability to perform a variety of tasks in the field and at the customer site. The PPT 2700 combines ruggedized mobility, bar code scanning and wireless communications capabilities in a hand-held computer operated by touch or pen input.

@Road currently offers Web-based mobile resource management solutions for commercial fleets including location, tracking, activity reporting, dispatch management, vehicle maintenance scheduling, and 2-way messaging. Future product releases targeted for the transportation and logistic markets will include mobile access to content and end-to-end secure data transmission.
