9th Annual Influential Women of Northern Ontario: Awards 2006.


Attendees of the sold-out Ninth Annual Influential Women of Northern Ontario luncheon in Thunder Bay and Sudbury could feel the positive energy in the room when several community leaders were honoured for their accomplishments.

The audiences of over 400 in the Radisson Hotel, Sudbury and over 380 at the Valhalla Inn, Thunder Bay were impressed. This included high school students and the Thunder Bay Boys and Girls boys and girls

Northern Ontario Business Northern Ontario Business is a Canadian magazine, which publishes monthly in Greater Sudbury, Ontario. The magazine covers business news and issues in Northern Ontario.  publisher and co-host of both luncheons Patricia Mills, said she hoped the young attendees would be inspired by the outstanding award winners.

Northeastern Ontario winners were Sandra Mews from Sudbury owner of two financial businesses, Dundee Wealth Management Dundee Wealth management is a Toronto, Canada based financial services firm. The parent company of Dundee Wealth Management is Dundee Corporation.

Dundee Wealth Management operates a number of different wholly-owned subsidiaries, shown in the sections below.
 and Sudbury Family Mediation, who won the private sector category. Lois Krause executive director of North Bay and District Hospital Foundation won the public sector category. Patricia Vecchio, owner, The Steamy Bean Coffee Company in Sault Ste Marie, won the Young Entrepreneur Award. A special recognition award was presented posthumously to Patricia Aitken. Derek Wilkinson her partner accepted the award on her behalf.

Northwestern Ontario winners were Mary Long-Irwin, president of the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce, who won the public sector category. Geraldton business owner Lynn Gosselin won the private sector category and Brenda Cooper, owner of Serenity Esthetics esthetics: see aesthetics.  in downtown Thunder Bay, won the Young Entrepreneur Award.
