The $299,999.99 contribution is a combination of associate and customer donations from throughout the Southwestern United States, along with 99 Cents Only Stores' contributions.

A check will be presented to representatives of the Greater Houston Area Chapter of the Red Cross by Eric Schiffer, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. , and Jeff Gold, President and COO, of 99 Cents Only Stores at the company's Galleria Area store located at 7639 Westheimer Road, on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at 2:00 PM.

When Rita hit, 99 Cents Only Stores were among the last to close and the first to reopen. Employees of 99 Cents Only Stores kept stores open as late as 3:00 PM on Friday, the day before Hurricane Rita was expected to make landfall, in order to make essential items like water and batteries available to those unable to evacuate Houston in time. 99 Cents Only Stores opened its Category 5 proof Distribution Center in Katy to those who didn't feel safe at home and couldn't get out of harm's way beyond the danger limit; in a safe place.
