95 pc wheat purchase achieved in Multan.

MULTAN, June 04, 2009 (Balochistan Times) -- Food department Multan division, bought 14,04,324 tons (1.404 million tons) of the golden grain thus achieving 95 per cent target of procurement from 78 centres across the division. Deputy director Munir Ahmed said on Thursday that the revised target was fixed at 14,84,000 tons (1.484 million tons) for the division. He said daily some 4,000 tons of wheat is arriving at the procurement centres across the division. In view of the shortage of empty bags the farmers have been allowed to bring their commodity in their own bags, whose price is paid at the time of arrival of the grain, he said The district-wise procurement and revised target is as under: Multan 3,28,259 tons (against target of 3,50,000 tons), Khanewal 2,65,730 tons (target 2,80,000 tons), Lodhran 1,54,155 tons (target 1,70,000 tons), Vehari 2,22,295 tons (target 2,45,000 tons), Pakpattan 1,50,245 tons (target 1,50,000 tons) and Sahiwal 2,83,640 tons (target 3,00,000 tons). The official hoped that the target would be achieved within the next couple of weeks. Only 1.1 kilogram reduction per bag of 100 kg is being charged for weight of the jute bag and dust. He said that the growers are paid not only the price of the empty bags but they are also paid transportation charges for fetching their commodity to the procurement centres.
