911Cares Partners with Nationwide Public Safety Organizations to Provide Continued Relief to Katrina, Rita Victims; Hurricanes Lead to Largest Effort Since Organization's Inception Following 9/11.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- 911Cares, an organization that was founded to provide assistance to public safety professionals affected by the 9/11 attacks, has expanded its relief efforts to aid victims of both hurricane Katrina and Rita. By partnering with public safety service providers such as InterAct Public Safety Systems, 911Cares has been able to deliver truckloads of necessary items such as clothing, toiletries, children's games and canned goods. From coast to coast, victimized families are receiving these donated items that are being gathered by various 9-1-1 dispatch centers. "Since 911Cares' launch, we have seen a continued outpouring of help to victims of many other situations over the last four years," said Kevin Willett, director of 911Cares. "With these latest tragedies, we are experiencing an amazing response by many organizations. From NBC's '3 Wishes' show aiding a 9-1-1 dispatcher's family to the recent jam-packed, 53-foot Mayflower truck that delivered much-needed supplies, we are just amazed at the level of kindness people have displayed."

While the government is expected to provide monetary relief to the affected areas, many of these parishes face the possibility of bankruptcy before these funds can reach them. 911Cares is hoping that with the generosity of organizations across the country, it can help prevent this from happening. By partnering with local chapters of NENA and APCO, and NENA National 911Cares was able to mobilize instantly, delivering critical aid immediately following hurricane Katrina.
