911 CALL LANDS PAIR IN JAIL ON DRUG-MAKING CHARGES; POSSIBLE MISDIALING PROMPTS DEPUTIES TO ENTER SUSPECTED LAB.

A 911 call from a Lancaster home, possibly placed by mistake, led deputies to two arrests and the discovery of a former drug lab, sheriff's officials said.

Alicia Allan, 23, and Mark Williams, 19, both of Lancaster, were being held Tuesday at the Lancaster sheriff's station in lieu of $500,000 bail each on suspicion of manufacturing a controlled substance.

Allan also was being held on suspicion of obstructing an investigation because she refused to let deputies enter the house when they said they came to check out a 911 call.

``When she kept refusing to allow deputies in, deputies got suspicious,'' said Deputy Chris Keeling. ``We knew the 911 call came from that house. We didn't know who made it.''

Lancaster deputies said they went to the house in the 300 block of East Avenue J-13 after someone called 911 at 2 a.m. Tuesday but immediately hung up. The call registered at the sheriff's station as coming from that house, deputies said.

Deputies went to the house to see whether anyone there needed help. Allan, who answered the door, told deputies the occupants had not called the police and that everything was all right, but refused to let them in.

``It's our policy that we must make contact with every occupant in the residence to assure everyone's safety,'' Keeling said.

While the woman insisted that nothing was wrong, deputies said they heard objects being moved around inside the house, and they heard a rear door shutting.

Deputies said they entered the house through the rear door, smelled a strong chemical odor and suspected that methamphetamine was being manufactured. They found chemical components commonly used in manufacturing methamphetamine, a powerful stimulant, but found no laboratory glassware, deputies said.

``We found some typical components that lead us to believe that there was a lab,'' said sheriff's Sgt. Tony Hollins, a member of a task force that works to stop illegal manufacturing of methamphetamine in northern Los Angeles County.

Deputies said they never learned how or why the 911 call was placed, but suggested it might have been a result of misdialing.
