911 CALL FOILS 6 ROBBERS; INTRUDERS ESCAPE IN TOLUCA LAKE.

Clad in black and white outfits, six robbers burst into a home in an affluent Toluca Lake neighborhood Saturday morning, bound its occupants, then suddenly fled, apparently without taking anything, police said.

Police credit a 911 call made by one of the residents for disrupting the home invasion, which took place shortly after 9 a.m. at a home in the 4500 block of Auckland Avenue, said Sgt. Sam Layton with the Los Angeles Police Department's North Hollywood division.

The ordeal began when the robbers knocked on the door of the two-story, peach-colored home. One of the three residents home at the time opened the door and the group of five men and one woman forced their way into the home, Layton said.

As the intruders bound two of the residents, a third resident in a bedroom dialed 911, but was told to hang up by one of the intruders who entered the room, police said.

``Shortly thereafter, the 911 dispatcher called back to determine if there was an accident, and apparently the phone call agitated or scared the suspects and they left the location,'' said LAPD spokesman Don Cox.

The victims were shaken but suffered no major injuries, officials said.

``It was a very quick deal. . . . (The robbers) were in there a very short time,'' Layton said.

Two of the intruders were dressed entirely in white while the others wore black outfits. They escaped in a black vehicle, said Layton.

``I was surprised when (the 911 call) came out because this is not a problem in this area at all,'' Layton said. ``I never heard of anything like that happening before.''
