90 NEW KID PORN WEBSITES A WEEK.
NINETY new child porn websites are being launched around the world every week, according to shock new figures.
The UK-based Internet Watch Foundation, staffed mainly by former police officers, last year recorded 3,317 sites showing illegal images, up from 2,444 in 2001 - a leap of 36 per cent. The sick industry is now worth pounds 200million.
The pay-per-view websites cost pounds 30 a month to access and many show abuse of babies and toddlers. Sites recently closed down include Cyber Lolita, Child Rape and Children Of God. Despite some high-profile convictions, including US child porn baron Thomas Reedy, criminal gangs continue to flood the web with more websites.
The IWF says most of the sites originate in five countries. The United States comes top, with 1,937 sites traced last year, compared with 1,867 in 2001.
Detective Superintendent Peter Spindler of the Metropolitan Police said: "Every new website posted means there are more children being abused."
PERVERT: Thomas Reedy
