market's need for a cost-effective, easy-to-use backup technology that will grow with users as their systems' storage requirements increase," said Ernest Wassmann, Exabyte's vice president of marketing. Easy-to-install software on CD-ROM

This is the first time a tape drive has been offered with a choice of software on CD-ROM. The first of Exabyte's CD-ROM programs, called EXAsoft for the EXB-8700, allows users to select one backup software application from a choice of Arcada Backup Exec Backup Exec is backup software for Microsoft Windows environments currently developed by Symantec. Backup Exec has a long history of being sold from one company to another.  for NT, Aracada Backup Exec for NLM Software that runs in a NetWare server. Although NetWare servers store DOS and Windows applications, they do not execute them. All programs that run in a NetWare server must be compiled into the NLM format. They are typically written in C and use Novell's libraries. , Cheyenne ARCserve for Netware (windows edition), and Palindrome Backup Director for NLM. Arcada Backup for DOS/Windows is also included for no additional cost, and the selected software is provided to the user by Exabyte at no extra charge. The Arcada and Cheyenne applications are available in English, French and German versions, and all software documentation is available on the CD-ROM. The software represents up to a $1,395 value.

All of the software applications provided with the EXB-8700 provide powerful, reliable, easy-to-use automated backup and restore for PC LAN environments.

"Arcada recognizes the proliferation of smaller network environments in need of backup solutions that deliver reliability, ease of use and scalability for enterprise protection," said Bob Brown, Arcada's vice president of storage and data management products. "To that end, we have teamed with Exabyte to provide a fully integrated CD-ROM package offering network administrators a comprehensive, cost-effective solution."

"Smaller sites still require feature-rich high-performance storage management solutions," said James McNiel, executive vice president, corporate development for Cheyenne Software. "By combining Exabyte's EXB-8700 with Cheyenne ARCserve for Netware, Exabyte is indeed providing an excellent value to a price-sensitive market."

"The EXB-8700 drive and Palindrome Backup are a perfect fit for cost-conscious customers who still expect the very best features and performance," said Michael Tatelman, senior vice president of sales and business development for Palindrome. "The opportunity to participate in this CD-ROM program with Exabyte means customers will be presented with the software that Exabyte has ensured is the most compatible, easy to use and best overall solution for EXB-8700 customers."

Another tool provided in the EXB-8700 kit is Adaptec CI/O software. Adaptec CI/O software allows system administrators and network managers to remotely profile performance and diagnose problems of SCSI devices from any Windows-based client.

"Coupled with Adaptec CI/O software, our Windows-based network management tool, the EXB-8700 gives small network and server users an intuitive and complete backup package that will make backups and network management simpler and less time consuming," said John Hamm John Frederick Hamm, MLA, MD (born April 8, 1938) is a Canadian physician and politician and was the 31st premier of Nova Scotia, Canada.
