85 Percent of BankUnited Branches Open Following Hurricane Wilma.

, today announced that 51 of its 61 branch locations in Florida are fully operational following Hurricane Wilma Hurricane Wilma was the most intense hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic basin. Exceeding the 21 storms of the 1933 season, Wilma was the twenty-second storm (including the subtropical storm discovered in reanalysis), thirteenth hurricane, sixth major hurricane, and fourth , which struck the Southeastern portion of the state early Monday, Oct. 24. By Tuesday, Nov. 1, at least 55 branches will be in service.

"We have remained available to our customers during these challenging times," said Alfred R. Camner, BankUnited's chairman and chief executive officer. "We were one of the only banks to have branches open immediately following the storm, with 25 percent of our locations serving customers the day after Hurricane Wilma hit. By Thursday of last week, we were at 50 percent. Today we are at 85 percent.
