BAE Systems was formed (1999) from the merger of British Aerospace (BAe) with Marconi Electronic Systems. announced Wednesday that it will lay off 60 workers at its Mojave plant and 24 workers in Victorville as a result of the downturn in the aerospace industry. The cuts, coupled with previously announced plans for job reductions, will reduce the Mojave work force from 332 workers to 175. The cuts will take effect Sept. 6. ``These additional cuts are the result of several issues, including the timing of the downturn in the industry,'' said company spokeswoman Dale Avery. ``Any worker laid off will receive a severance package A severance package is pay and benefits an employee receives when they leave employment at a company. The company also converts Vietnam-era F-4 jet fighters into target drones.
