839th Transportation Battalion.[ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] Mission and Area of Responsibility The mission of the 839th Transportation Battalion is to execute and enable expeditionary port and surface distribution operations within the USEUCOM USEUCOM United States European Command (US DoD) and USAFRICOM USAFRICOM Us Africa Command (proposed unified command) AORs to ensure mission success of Department of Defense and coalition forces across the full spectrum of conflict. On order, the 839th can deploy globally and execute and enable port operations and distribution support. The 839th Transportation Battalion's area of responsibility is the southern part of Europe, the countries around the Mediterranean Sea Mediterranean Sea [Lat.,=in the midst of lands], the world's largest inland sea, c.965,000 sq mi (2,499,350 sq km), surrounded by Europe, Asia, and Africa.
