Chiefly residential, it has some light industry.  Rodeo rodeo (rō`dēō, rōdā`ō), public exhibition of the skill of cowboys in various activities. Events include riding broncos, riding steers, "bulldogging" steers, roping and tying steers and calves, the use of the lasso, and  competition Nov. 6-9, 2006. ICODES (Integrated Computerized Deployment System) is the system used by the battalion as a ship loading software tool to create vessel stow plans and to assist in management of port staging areas.

The battalion-wide ICODES Stow Rodeo served as a ship stowing workshop and competition. Marine cargo specialists from the battalion headquarters, subordinate units in Bremerhaven, GE, The Azores and the UK Detachment, and the 598th Transportation Group headquarters that are ICODES-trained participated in the event.

Stow planners competed on one of four three-person teams. Each team was provided a notional ship A theoretical or average ship of any one category used in transportation planning (e.g., a Liberty ship for dry cargo; a T-2 tanker for bulk petroleum, oils, and lubricants; a personnel transport of 2,400 troop spaces).  manifest that required extensive corrections. Competitors were then instructed to create staging area templates and staging plans for two separate port areas in Antwerp, Belgium and Rotterdam, The Netherlands and create a stow plan for one large medium speed (LMSR LMSR large, medium speed roll-on/roll-off (US DoD)
LMSR Linear Multistage Receiver
) roll-on/roll-off (RORO RORO Roll On, Roll Off ) vessel.

The ICODES Stow Rodeo instructors and judges were John Manahane and Gary Rucks. Both Manahane and Rucks are retired military with extensive ship loading and ICODES experience. Rucks is a former ICODES instructor from the Army Transportation School.

"The competition served as a great opportunity to brief the latest ICODES updates and changes to our stow planners and share the best techniques and procedures for vessel stowing," said Rucks.

The competition also served as a battalion team building event for the geographically dispersed stow planners who have not previously had the opportunity to train together.

Members of the winning team are Burkhard Bremer, Nils Phuhl (Bremerhaven) and Michel van Marie (Rotterdam). Members from the winning team were presented trophies by battalion Sgt. Maj. Kent Tabor at the end of the competition.

Based on very positive after action review comments by all participants, the battalion plans to make the ICODES Stow Rodeo an annual event.--Lt. Col. John Hanson
