Almost a quarter (24 per cent) of film fans voted the family time travel flick the one they would most like to be reworked for the 21st century.

Offered a choice of ten popular 1980s films, only 12 per cent of respondents said they would most like to see an updated version of Steven Spielberg's feel-good alien tale on the big screen, while 11 per cent voted for action hit Top Gun.

After Back to the Future, the second most popular choice was Gremlins, with 19 per cent of people wanting to see the fantasy horror make a noughties noughties
