An STM uses a piezoelectric tube with a tiny sharp tip at the end that is moved within nanometers of the object being sampled. ) today announced an 8-bit shift register chip featuring low-side DMOS output transistors that can drive 100mA loads, including light emitting diodes (LEDs), relays, and solenoids.

The STPIC6C595 power-logic 8-bit shift register features a typical on resistance, or RDS (1) (Remote Data Services) A set of programming interfaces from Microsoft that enables users to update data on the Internet or intranets from their ActiveX-enabled browser. (on), of just 4(omega) to conserve energy and spike-suppressing 33V output-voltage clamps for withstanding inductive loads. The chip is available in space-saving TSSOP-16 and SO-16 packages, and multiple units can be cascaded. Suitable for driving low- and medium-current loads, the STPIC6C595 is mainly intended to power the LED turn signals that are increasingly replacing incandescent lamps in automobiles and other vehicles.

The logic side of STPIC6C595 comprises an 8-bit serial-in, parallel-out shift register feeding an 8-bit D-type storage register. Both registers are independently clocked. In addition, separate control signals are provided to clear the shift register and enable the output buffer. Multiple STPIC6C595 chips can be cascaded thanks to a serial-out pin.

On the power side, the output of the STPIC6C595 consists of eight low-side, open-drain DMOS transistors rated for 33V and 100mA of continuous sink capability. Output current is limited to 250mA at a 25(degree)C case temperature. For added protection, the maximum allowable current decreases for higher temperatures. The chip's built-in voltage clamps are each rated to absorb avalanche energy of 30mJ. The STPIC6C595 also withstands ESD (1) (Electronic Software Distribution) Distributing new software and upgrades via the network rather than individual installations on each machine. See ESL.  spikes of up to 1.5kV (human body model) and 200V (machine model).

The STPIC6C595 power-logic 8-bit shift register is rated for operation at case temperatures of -40(degree) to 125(degree)C and comes in SO-16 or TSSOP-16 packages. The chip is available now in production volume and is delivered in tube (for SO-16) or tape-and-reel formats.
