8 SEEKING OAK PARK BOARD SEAT.

Byline: Sonia Giordani Daily News Staff Writer

Eight people have submitted applications to fill a seat on the Oak Park school board that was vacated by the resignation last month of President Jeri Fox.

The eight applicants were scheduled to be screened Tuesday night by board members, and semifinalists will be invited to participate in a public forum at 7 p.m. Thursday at Oak Park High School.

A final decision will be announced by Monday and the new board member will be sworn in at Tuesday's meeting.

``All of the applicants have had experience with the school district and with their children's schools,'' said Marilyn Lippiatt, superintendent of the Oak Park Unified School District Oak Park Unified School District (OPUSD) is a K-12 school district in southeast Ventura County, California, USA.  that so many people were interested enough in the school district to pick up applications and complete them,'' she said.

Candidates were asked to complete an application form, submit a current resume including experiences with Oak Park schools and with the community, provide a 200-word candidate statement and respond to eight questions. Over the past four weeks, 15 people picked up applications.

The new member will succeed Fox, who resigned after parents and teachers raised questions about her judgment in allowing alcohol to be served to teens attending a homecoming Homecoming

``I see the board moving on without a problem,'' Lippiatt said. ``We will brief the new member on district issues as rapidly as possible.

``But that's what happens when any new board member joins the team, regardless of the circumstances. It takes some time to be brought up to speed,'' she said.

The term will last only one year, with the winner of November's board election taking office in December.

Wayne Blasman, board president, said his priority is to find the applicant with the most experience and background in the district and its programs.

``We need the new board member to hit the ground running,'' he said.
