Eight distinguished African-Americans from Ventura County were honored Saturday for their outstanding achievements and accomplishments as community leaders.

``Our honorees are making a tremendous contribution, and this is one way to acknowledge their contributions,'' said Robin Freeman, president of the organization's Ventura County chapter.
