NSPF[R] and NEHA have jointly launched the Certified Pool-Spa Inspector[TM] (CPI[TM]) training program to help health inspectors and facility personnel inspect aquatic facilities. This national training program will increase the consistency and effectiveness of inspections, ultimately protecting the public by reducing the potential for injury and illness. The CPI[TM] program includes an interactive training CD for students to use as a resource. The program is designed to reflect just how an official performs an inspection. Registration cost includes a half-day of training, the CPI[TM] training program CD (a $60 value), and certification exam. The prerequisite for certification is the CPO (Chief Privacy Officer) An individual who manages the privacy issues within an organization. Arising out of the privacy regulations in finance and health care in the late 1990s, the CPO position eventually crossed over to all industries. [R] certification. The CPI[TM] certification never expires as long as you keep your CPO[R] certification current. Cost is $99 for members and $129 for nonmembers if you sign up by June 9, 2006.

Chief William Pessemier, MPA, has spent 25 years in the fire service from being a firefighter to a training officer to a fire chief. Prior to retirement, he was the incident commander for the fire and emergency medical response to the shootings at Columbine High School Columbine High School is a secondary school in unincorporated Jefferson County, Colorado. For this field trip, you will be visiting the beautiful Texas Hill Country area. The lure of this region has resulted in rapid population growth and has posed a challenge to traditional onsite wastewater treatment. Field trip hosts will show and discuss:

** alternative and innovative systems permitted in Texas

** the selection of the proper system for site and resource protection

** regulatory and permitting issues

** blending a system into the landscape

** installation practices and precautions

** system performance, risk, and resource protection considerations

** operation, maintenance, and monitoring needs

This is an outdoor field trip so come prepared with appropriate walking shoes, sunscreen, hat, and insect repellent (just in case). Cost for this field trip is $18 if you sign up by June 9, 2006, and includes transportation. Limit 30 people.

Bruce J. Lesikar, MS, PhD, PE, serves as Associate Department Head, Professor, and Extension Program Leader in the Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department at Texas A & M University. He is actively developing informational materials to assist in reaching homeowners, decision-makers, and professionals in the industry, and supports the development of curriculum materials through the Consortium of Institutes for Decentralized Wastewater Treatment (CIDWT). ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH TRAINING IN DISASTER RESPONSE COURSE--LEVEL I

Thursday, June 22 (1:00-5:30pm) and Friday & Saturday, June 23 & 24 (8:00am-5:15pm)

Designed as an introductory overview, the course will cover a range of EH topics commonly faced in response to disasters, both administrative and technical. This course will help prepare practitioners with the skills and knowledge to effectively respond to those EH issues, and includes lecture, hands-on, and demonstration components. Attendees will participate in exercises for assessing mass-care operations, food, water, air, solid waste, wastewater, built environments, and vector control. This course is sponsored by the USPHS Environmental Health Officer Professional Advisory Committee's Readiness Subcommittee, CDC/NCEH's Environmental Health Services Branch, and NEHA.

Those interested in participating must submit a course application.

Course applicants must be registered for the full NEHA conference to be eligible for consideration. If accepted, registration for the course is $79 for members and nonmembers. USDA/FNS, in collaboration with CDC and other partners in the National Coalition for Food-Safe Schools (www.foodsafeschools.org) have developed a resource to help with school food safety strategies, the Food-Safe Schools Action Guide. The FSSAG contains a Needs Assessment and Planning Guide tool that schools can use to identify strengths and weaknesses in their food safety programs and develop a plan for action. This workshop presents new information about becoming a Food-Safe School utilizing the FSSAG and other resources, and provides the opportunity to learn from the experiences of an actual Food-Safe School in Rhode Island. This cooperative workshop training will include classroom lecture and group discussion on the biology of insects and rodents of public health significance; effective physical and chemical insect and rodent control methods (including integrated pest and sanitation management); and insect and rodent-borne diseases of public health significance, including possible bioterror agents.

ESSENTIALS IN HEALTHY HOMES PRACTITIONER TRAINING COURSE

Come early to the conference for an exceptional educational opportunity. In a special arrangement with NEHA, the National Center for Healthy Housing is offering this two-day course to conference attendees through funding from CDC, HUD Hud (hd), a pre-Qur'anic prophet of Islam. Housing codes are grounded in public health protection, and health hazards in the home pose significant threats to the health of residents, especially children. NSPF[R] CERTIFIED POOL-SPA OPERATOR[R] CLASS

NEHA is pleased to offer the National Swimming Pool Foundation[R]'s (NSPF[R]) two-day Certified Pool-Spa Operator[R] (CPO[R]) class at the AEC & Exhibition. CPO[R] certification is recognized nationally and internationally, and is a leading education and certification program for pool and spa operators, providing a front-line defense to protect the public. NSF NSF - National Science Foundation  PLAN REVIEW SURVEY COURSE

Saturday, June 24 (8:30am-5:00pm)

The National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) Plan Review Survey Course for food service and retail food is designed to provide EH professionals with an understanding of the components and process of plan review. It is based on the current version of the FDA Model Food Code and the CFP/FDA Blue Book. The course covers the application process; menu review; site, mechanical, and structural systems utilities layout; and equipment specifications. It includes sections on water and wastewater, storage, refrigeration refrigeration, process for drawing heat from substances to lower their temperature, often for purposes of preservation. Refrigeration in its modern, portable form also depends on insulating materials that are thin yet effective. , cooking, dishwashing, and installation of equipment. Cost is $99 for members and $139 for nonmembers if you sign up by June 9, 2006. Limit 50 people.
