7-TERM REGIONAL REP DIES JOHN ROUSSELOT, WAS BIRCH OFFICER.

Former Rep. John H. Rousselot John Harbin Rousselot (November 1, 1927 - May 11, 2003) was a U.S. Representative from California.

Born in Los Angeles, California, Rousselot attended the public schools of San Marino and South Pasadena, California.B.A., Principia College, Elsah, Illinois, 1949.
, a conservative Republican who was an officer of the John Birch Society John Birch Society, ultraconservative, anti-Communist organization in the United States. It was founded in Dec., 1958, by manufacturer Robert Welch and named after John Birch, an American intelligence officer killed by Communists in China (Aug., 1945). , has died. He was 75.

Rousselot, who lived in Mission Viejo, died of congestive heart failure congestive heart failure, inability of the heart to expel sufficient blood to keep pace with the metabolic demands of the body. In the healthy individual the heart can tolerate large increases of workload for a considerable length of time.  at Irvine Medical Center, his son, Craig, said.

The controversial and colorful San Marino native was first elected to Congress in 1960, ousting Democratic incumbent George Kasem. He failed to win re-election after he publicly supported the ultraconservative Birch Society.

In 1970, he won a seat in Congress again, this time representing parts of the Antelope, Santa Clarita and San Gabriel valleys. He lost that seat 12 years later due in part to redistricting redistricting: see legislative apportionment. .

After Rousselot left Congress, he worked for then-President Reagan and later headed the Washington-based lobbying group the National Council of Savings Institutions. In 1989, Rousselot drew criticism after he tried to buy a failed savings and loan savings and loan n. a banking and lending institution, chartered either by a state or the Federal government. Savings and loans only make loans secured by real property from deposits, upon which they pay interest slightly higher than that paid by most banks.  owned by financier Charles Keating Jr.

His subsequent bids for Congress were unsuccessful, including one in 1992 in the Antelope Valley.

Rousselot is survived by his son and two daughters. A public memorial service will be planned later.
