7 killed in bus crash in Uganda

A bus and a truck carrying goods collided head-on in Uganda, killing seven people and injuring 20, police said Monday.

Both vehicles were trying to avoid potholes and were speeding when the accident occurred Sunday afternoon, Uganda police spokesman Edward Ochom said.

One of the victims was a 24-year-old British woman who had been training at a hospital in Kabale, near the Uganda-Congo border in the east of the country, Ochom said. The crash occurred 25 miles from Uganda's capital, Kampala.

Police said 2,000 people die in road accidents on average each year.

Last month, more than 25 people, including six foreigners coming back from a Jehovah's Witnesses conference, were killed in two bus crashes.
