7 JOIN SANTA CLARITA COUNCIL RACE; 17 CANDIDATES TO VIE FOR 3 SEATS IN APRIL ELECTION.

Seven more Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  residents entered April's City Council race by Wednesday's deadline, bringing to 17 the total number of candidates running for three open seats.

Of the candidates who had announced plans to run, only Mark Clark, 23, did not file by the deadline. Clark, a local warehouse worker who served in the U.S. Air Force, had said he wanted to represent youth and work to strengthen law enforcement.
