7 JAILED IN BURGLARY CASE DETECTIVES EXPECT TO ARREST MORE SUSPECTS IN THEFT RING.

Byline: Greg Botonis Staff Writer

PALMDALE - Seven people arrested last week have been linked to more than 100 burglaries, vehicle thefts and credit card scams over the past several months, investigators said Tuesday.

Three men, three women and a 17-year-old boy were arrested Thursday when deputies served search warrants at four Lancaster and Quartz Hill homes and found drugs and stolen merchandise worth more than $5,000.

``It's a group of people that work together, but also independently,'' said Palmdale Special Investigations Detail Deputy Mark Machanic. ``They all know each other.''

The warrants were obtained during investigations into recent rashes of vehicle thefts and home and vehicle burglaries. Many of the vehicles were stolen on cold mornings while the vehicles' owners left their cars running in their driveways to warm up.

Amanda Pica, 20, and Evan Smith Evan Smith (b. April 20, 1966) is the current Editor in Chief of Texas Monthly.

Born in New York, Smith has a bachelor's degree in public policy from Hamilton College and a master's degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University

Pica was also arrested on suspicion of possession of narcotic narcotic, any of a number of substances that have a depressant effect on the nervous system. The chief narcotic drugs are opium, its constituents morphine and codeine, and the morphine derivative heroin.

Investigators say the seven have connections to three people arrested in January on suspicion of using stolen or fraudulent checks and credit cards to purchase more than $35,000 in electronics and furnishings.

The seven also have connections to an ex-convict arrested last November on suspicion of stealing tools, car stereos and other valuables out of at least 50 vehicles, many parked at construction sites, authorities said.
