HILL - Three candidates who ran unsuccessfully in the Nov. 6 election and four other people active in local schools have applied for an empty Westside Union School District board seat. The seven are seeking to be appointed by the school board to replace trustee Scott Gmur, who resigned Dec. 4 after six years in office, saying it was time to move on. ``It seems like we have a rather varied group of candidates, of applicants,'' Superintendent Allan Sacks said Thursday. The deadline for applications was Wednesday. The four remaining trustees are expected to interview the applicants at a Jan. 28 public meeting and appoint one. The term for the new trustee runs until the November 2003 election. Sachs said the district's goal is to make the appointment process open and public, with equal consideration given to all the applicants. The applicants include Alejandra ``Alex'' Dunkel, Robin Kessler and Donna Margherita, all candidates in the Nov. 6 election. In that election, Westside voters re-elected trustee Christine LeBeau and elected newcomers James Brink James Brink (born June 8, 1925) is a former American tennis player.
