duties, penning a string of truly epic rock songs.

This album sums up why they've been around for so long with continued success. Songs like Monkey Wrench, All My Life, Everlong, Learn To Fly, Breakout and Long Road To Ruin mark them out as a genuinely exceptional band. Dave's second. Just as well he's the nicest man in rock or we'd all hate him through sheer envy. MM

Of course if you don't already own this first solo album from the iconic star, here's the perfect excuse to rectify that error. MM

FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD Frankie Say Greatest Pretty much what you would expect here - the biggest tunes from the legendary 80s outfit. The frightening thing is just how current a lot of the tracks sound now - Relax or Pleasuredome could easily sit alongside the likes of Calvin Harris and Lady Gaga ga·ga

VARIOUS The Annual 2010 What used to be the definitive, once a year dance album has been diluted somewhat now that a new one seems to come out every five minutes but it's still hard to argue with the track listing. Basically every big tune of the last few months, packed on to three CDs. Far too many big names to list but you get the idea. MM

SALON SOCIETY Promenade This the Glasgow-based band's debut album. Roxanne Claxton shines as lead vocalist. The Bluebells' Ken McCluskey contributes to indie blues track Preaching The Blues.
