6th International Conference on phytotherapeutics: 21-23 September 2007 Canberra ACT Australia.Undoubtedly our biggest and best conference as we continue to move forward and upward as a profession. This year we returned to Canberra with definite advantages and disadvantages. Convenience, space and accessibility are a big plus for Canberra however we were quite disappointed with the return hospitality and organisation of our venue. Next conference is definitely moving north! Our conference organising team was the biggest yet and our special thanks go to all those involved, particularly Ange Sullivan who volunteered her professional technical services for the weekend, and the team members Kim Hunter, Erica McIntyre, Ian Breakspear, Kylie Seaton, Leah Hechtman and Petra Henniger. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] The topics and presentations this year were excellent and we are enormously grateful to all the speakers who freely gave of their talents and knowledge. We would particularly like to thank Professor Gerry Bodeker from Kuala Lumpa Malaysia, and Bevin Clare from Laurel USA, whose special contribution to a successful weekend was enormous. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] We were also very lucky to have such a positive international input from Isla Burgess and Phil Rasmussen Philip M. Rasmussen was an Army Air Corps second lieutenant assigned to the 46th Pursuit Squadron at Wheeler Field on the island of Oahu during the Japanese attack on December 7, 1941. He was one of the few American pilots to get into the air that day. from New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland. , and Michael McMullen from Sweden, as well as excellent presentations on medicines from Thailand (Assunta Hunter) and Mexico and Cuba (Sue Evans). We were particularly delighted to have a visit from the Ambassador for Mexico to Sue's talk. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] From the delegates: I loved the rich diversity of speakers and topics. Bodeker and Clare, a good example of excellent speakers, measured and respectful. All the information was overwhelming but I was very excited to be there. I have been to four of these conferences and have thoroughly enjoyed every one. Kakkib li'Dthia Warrawee'a always brings a certain indefinable quality to the atmosphere of a conference. This year we were honoured that he could give his last presentation to our group and freely and openly discuss his terminal illness. [ILLUSTRATIONS OMITTED] For our Friday afternoon High Tea (thanks to some excellent organising skills from Kylie Seaton) and throughout the weekend we enjoyed a special range of handmade herbal and other biscuits, treats and teas, and are very grateful for these generous donations from: Le Chocoreve Patisserie pa·tis·se·rie n. Dinner and trivia night Saturday night brought us a great evening of dinner, trivia and awards. Ses Salmond, Nick Burgess and John Baxter put together a challenging, somewhat chaotic and hilarious trivia program. With prizes and laughs galore it was definitely one of the highlights of the weekend! [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] A lot of riotous thought went into the numerous limericks that were handed in, virtually all of which are too X rated to include in this report! Special thanks to our dinner sponsors: Phase 5 who generously donated a bottle of their Camelia tea oil (produced from the flower seeds of Camellia oleifera Camellia oleifera, which originated in China, is notable as an important source of edible oil (known as tea oil or camellia oil) obtained from its seeds [1]. We will continue to work on the list! Poster prize The poster presentations were judged by an independent panel of four of the key conference presenters.
