60 FILE FOR APRIL 10 CITY ELECTION.

With a last-minute flurry of filings, the second stage for the April 10 city election ended Monday with candidates filing their nominating petitions to qualify for the ballot.

As 5 p.m. struck, the City Clerk's Office locked its door to keep out those who missed the deadline in a day where some 60 candidates barely beat the clock.

The Clerk's Office now has 10 days to qualify the petitions for the final ballot.

As usual, there were a number of rumors regarding whether the leading candidates in various offices would file, but they all submitted their petitions.

In the mayor's race, that means those who submitted petitions included City Attorney James Hahn For the Iowa politician, see .

, Councilman Joel Wachs Joel Wachs served for several terms as Los Angeles City Councilman for the 2nd district. He was first elected by defeating incumbent James B. Potter.

While in office, Wachs chaired the Public Works Committee and vice-chair of the Environmental Quality & Waste Management
, former Assembly speaker Antonio Villaigosa, state Controller Kathleen Connell Kathleen Connell was the California State Controller from 1995 until 2003. She is currently President of the Connell Group, an investment advisory firm located in Washington, D.C. Dr. , businessman Steve Soboroff Steve Soboroff (born August 31, 1948) is a real estate developer and president of Playa Vista. Mr. Soboroff is the Chairperson of the Leavey Center for the Study of Los Angeles at Loyola Marymount University.  and Rep. Xavier Becerra, D-Los Angeles.
