6-axis robot becomes a CNC trimmer/router.CNC operations such as milling, drilling, grinding, and similar post-molding operations can be performed by a six-axis robot instead of a more expensive CNC machine tool machine tool, power-operated tool used for finishing or shaping metal parts, especially parts of other machines. An establishment that is equipped with such tools and specializes in such work is known as a machine shop. Machine tools operate by removing material from the workpiece, much as a sculptor works. using new software from Kuka Robotics Corp., Clinton Township, Mich. Kuka's CAMRob software allows its robots to operate with the flexibility of a machine tool, using any standard high-speed spindle for secondary finishing or rapid prototyping. A CAD file of the part is downloaded to the robot and translated into a CAM file that drives the robot operation. Pendant-based programming is not required.
