6 of 7 Tenn. jail escapees recapturedSix of the seven inmates who escaped from a jail this week were back behind bars Thursday, officials said. One escapee from the Hamblen County jail was still at large, but the rest were tracked down in the surrounding area, said Wayne Mize, chief deputy of the county sheriff's department. None of the seven was considered dangerous. Scott Collins was found at his girlfriend's house and surrendered late Thursday morning. Two hours later, Michael Jesse Banner was recaptured when he was spotted in a vehicle. He ran from officers but was caught, Mize said. Nicholas Kyle Short was captured Thursday night in Lubbock, Texas, Mize said. He was the only one believed to have left the state. Michael Curtis Long, serving a 12-year sentence on a federal firearms conviction, was captured Wednesday night about eight blocks from the jail when police spotted him at a backyard barbecue. Paul Long and Joshua Adkins were also apprehended Wednesday. Misdemeanor convict Nathan Wayne Carroll was still at large, Mize said. Carroll was dangerous only in that he doesn't "want to come back to jail," Mize said. "It's just a matter of time." There were 69 inmates in the 32-bed dormitory-style annex where the prisoners overpowered a guard to escape Tuesday night.
