6,200 twin cities students visit Inl expo on environment.

ISLAMABAD, October 17, 2009 (Balochistan Times): As many as 6,200 students from 75 public and private sectors educational institutions of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad visited the International Expo on Environment held here at a local girls college from Oct 2-16. While having an overview regarding the expo, Secretary Expo, Farhat Rajpar, informed that the exhibition tilted The Earths Future in Our Hands not only targeted children and youth between 12 to 20 years age group but also it attracted their parents and other family members. Moreover, she added, 285 teachers attended the expo. The PSF designated alternate days for the boys and girls so that they could make maximum use of this opportunity in a peaceful and secure atmosphere, she added. She said the PSF had also organized a three-day training workshop conducted by Mr. Pierre Beauvallet, creator of the exhibition from Scientific, Technical, Industrial and Cultural Centre, France, on September 29 to October 1 at IMCG, F-7/4. This workshop was aimed at providing training to the master trainers for explaining the exhibits to the visiting students and general public in such a way that the visitors could benefit maximum from the exhibition. Besides the students, general public also visited the Expo and admired the PSF and Embassy of Frances efforts to create awareness of environmental problems, she added. The international expo on environment which concluded Friday was visited by eager students who evinced keen interest in the displays related to environmental issues and their solutions. Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) organised the expo in collaboration with Federal Directorate of Education, Embassy of France in Islamabad and Scientific, Technical, Industrial and Culture Centre, France at Islamabad Model College for Girls, F-7/4, from October 2-16 daily from 9:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m, she added. Farhat Rajpar said the Expo would be moved to Abbottabad, where it will open for students from October 21. She said the expo has already travelled to a number of countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America will also be held in Sukkur and Multan. The expo is a part of PSF science promotion activities and celebration of National Year of Environment 2009. It is aimed at raising students awareness of the urgency to act if we are to save our earth for our future generations, she remarked. The exhibition is structured around three major themes including Living with Our Environment, Tomorrows Consumption and Production and Responsible Sharing of Resources, said Ms. Rajpar.
