5yrs jail for IRA man.

Byline: LIZ WALSH

A republican was jailed for five years yesterday after he was convicted of IRAmembership.

Declan Carroll, 25, from Raheny, Dublin, had pleaded not guilty to being a member of an illegal organisation styling itself Oglaigh na hEireann.

But Justice Richard Johnson said the court was satisfied "beyond reasonable doubt" that papers found in Carroll's bedroom would be used by "persons engaged in subversive activities".

The Special Criminal Court heard that one file, entitled Forensic, contained information on home made explosives and improvised mix.

Leave to appeal was refused.
