5G Wireless Solutions Expands California State University at Long Beach Campus-Wide Broadband Network.

, Calif. -- 5G Wireless Solutions, Inc., an emerging leader in the wireless broadband High-speed wireless transmission of data. What is "high" speed is always a changing number. Wireless systems are typically slower than land-based, wireline networks. In the past, wireless broadband started at 250 Kbps, whereas land-based broadband was generally considered to start at T1  industry and a wholly-owned subsidiary of 5G Wireless Communications wireless communications

:FGWC), announced today that California State University Enrollment
at Long Beach (CSULB CSULB California State University at Long Beach ) has expanded its Campus-Wide Area Network (C-WAN) with the purchase of additional 5G networking gear to replace other vendors' equipment.

The broadband wireless See wireless broadband.  network, launched last September, will ultimately become available throughout 84 permanent buildings and outdoors over 323 acres. When completed, the network will allow students and faculty to connect to the internet with standard 802.11b/g Wi-Fi PC cards from virtually any part of the campus.

CSULB seeks to offer exceptional network performance while minimizing hardware requirements. The process of implementing the integrated network to allow for seamless roaming was initiated with a series of site surveys and meticulous technical evaluations. 5G's enhanced 802.11b technology will create a campus-wide Wi-Fi HotZone(TM) that operates off only four major rooftop Access Points, compared with a competitive scenario that would have required over 500. Using less hardware also translates to easier installation and lower network management and maintenance costs. The overall result will be a significantly reduced total cost of ownership.

5G's "outside-in" approach allows rooftop Access Point signals to penetrate floors and walls to provide ubiquitous indoor and outdoor coverage. In some areas, the technology provides non-line-of-sight (NLOS NLOS Non-Line of Sight
NLOS No Line of Sight (satellite TV)
NLOS Near Line of Sight
) connectivity through buildings and trees.

Specialized applications offer a glimpse into how an integrated wireless environment will change day-to-day operations across a broad range of university operations. For example, construction crew trailers can access the internet, share files and communicate via email as they change locations over the life of a project. A "Book Buy-Back" tent in one of the parking lots on the edge of campus will use internet access track and process returns. Remote parking offices can similarly use online access to accept credit card payments. And the Student Health Services health services Managed care The benefits covered under a health contract  department will enable health care pros to provide better information-based emergency medical assistance and utilize handheld PDA's to service over 30,000 members in its campus-wide HMO HMO health maintenance organization.
