In the current security scenario, the participation and coming together of so many countries under one roof speaks volume of the success of the defence exhibition. The interest of the regional defence companies and their response so far is very over whelming. Turkey and China are the biggest exhibitors and Heavy Industries Taxila Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) is the backbone of Pakistan's Engineering industry & army, being a combination of multiple industries that has grown into a large military complex since 1980. It consists of six major production units and their support facilities. and NORINCO NORINCO China North Industry Corp China have signed an MoU for Al Khalid tank.
According to it, the companies will be working for the joint marketing of Al Khalid tanks and several other products. Minister for Defence Production Sardar Bahadur Ahmed Khan Sihar met many defence delegates who called on him at the sidelines of IDEAS 2012.
The Minister discussed areas of bilateral defence cooperation and the extent of industrial cooperation between Pakistan and other countries. The meetings expressed satisfaction over the ongoing collaborations in the field of defence. The minister also visited the exhibition and said; "Weapoms aren't produced for utilization in war but in present times the main purpose is to utilize them for peace and prosperity of the nation. Pakistan he added believes in global peace and expects the same from the rest of the world."
Pakistan Navy as part of IDEAS launched its pusher tugs. Lt Gen (r) Shahid Iqbal Secretary Defence Production chaired the elegant and impressive ceremony for launching of two Pusher Tugs, constructed for Pakistan Navy at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works Ltd here today.
Senior Flag officers, Delegates from friendly countries attending IDEAS 2012 and dignitaries from Maritime Sector, Defence Industries and Pakistan Navy were present. The event was planned to coincide in the IDEAS 2012. These Pusher Tugs with a displacement of 55 tons can achieve a speed of 10 knots with Bollard Pull of 12 Tons. Its Push bow and fenders have been especially designed for safe handling of submarines in harbour.
The Chief Guest Lt Gen (r) Shahid Iqbal during his address highlighted significance of the occasion as this is showcasing the capacity and capability of Pakistan in Defence Production, which is the central theme of the ongoing IDEAS 2012. It is indeed a clear manifestation of the indigenization In anthropological terms, to "indigenize" means to transform things to fit the local culture. Most changes in original culture occur when western corporations impose their products on other economies, Westernizing. policies of our government and a proud moment for KS&EW.
Earlier in his welcome address, Rear Admiral Hasan Nasir Shah SI (M), Managing Director Karachi Shipyard informed that these Tugs have been indigenously built at KS&EW with international quality standards and KS&EW has achieved complete self-sufficiency for construction of such vessels.
In last 2-year, KS&EW has delivered 4 of such vessels taking total tally to 19 tugs made at KSEW KSEW Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works . He also thanked MVRDE for entrusting KSEW for construction of 15 Bridge erection boats for Pakistan Navy.
